| Abstract: | This book is a collection of oral and written sources of miscellaneous stories from the lower Shenandoah Valley. Rockingham County entries include Uncle "Harry" Payne of Rawley Springs; John Hindman, minister and horse racer in the eighteenth century; Irenaeus Conder, Lutheran minister who served the Peaked Mountain parish from 1865-1895; the story surrounding the murder, in 1875 of David G. Lawson; and oral traditions of pulling railroad engines by horse team through Rockingham County on the Valley Pike. |
